Having a website made in 2026 costs a one-time fee for the build, plus a fixed monthly amount for hosting and maintenance. At Tieman IT, a template website starts from € 1,950 (excluding VAT), with € 49 to € 149 per month for hosting and maintenance. That works out to € 588 to € 1,788 per year. Building it yourself is cheaper, but costs your own time.

What does it cost to have a website made in 2026?

The price depends on one thing: how much is made specifically for you. There are roughly three levels.

| Level | What you get | Price at Tieman IT | |---|---|---| | Build it yourself | You put it together in a site builder such as Wix or Squarespace | A subscription, no build cost | | Template website | A proven setup that I fill in for your business with your texts, photos and colours | From € 1,950 one-time, excl. VAT | | Custom build | A design and features built specifically for your business | On request, with a fixed price upfront |

For most small businesses a template website is enough: a few pages, a contact form, your opening hours and a solid base for Google. A custom build only makes sense when you need something a template cannot do, such as your own booking system or a link with your accounting software.

A fixed price upfront means you know the cost before the work starts. If your wishes change halfway, I first discuss with you what that does to the price, and only then do I carry on.

What does a website cost per month and per year?

Building is a one-time investment, but a website keeps costing money. The fixed monthly costs are what you notice most in the long run. With me they are € 49 to € 149 per month, depending on how much runs on the site and how much maintenance you need.

Let's calculate it with the cheapest and the most expensive package:

| | Per month | Per year | |---|---|---| | Hosting and maintenance, lowest package | € 49 | € 588 | | Hosting and maintenance, highest package | € 149 | € 1,788 |

With Template Basic (from € 1,950 and € 49 per month) you pay about € 2,538 in the first year, and after that only the monthly costs. The larger packages cost more, both one-time and per month. Ask every provider for this total over several years. A low starting price with a high subscription can end up more expensive than the other way round.

What does it cost to host a website?

Hosting means placing your website on a computer (a server) that is switched on day and night, so visitors can open it. What you pay depends on where your site lives and what is included.

  • Site builder (Wix, Squarespace): hosting is part of the subscription. In 2026, Wix charges roughly 18 to 40 dollars per month for its regular plans (Light to Business) with yearly billing, according to wix.com/plans. Squarespace starts at around € 12 per month with yearly billing in 2026. Prices differ per country and change often, so always check their own pricing page.
  • Shared hosting: your site sits on a server with many other sites. Cheap, but you share the speed with your neighbours.
  • Your own server at an agency: at Tieman IT your site runs on servers I manage myself. That is included in the € 49 to € 149 per month, together with updates, security, backups and checks that everything works.

The difference lies in who makes sure it keeps working. With a site builder, the platform handles the technology. With shared hosting, you usually do. With me, that is my job.

Which website costs do people often forget?

Besides the build and the hosting, a few items are added that are missing from many quotes:

  • Domain name: the address of your site, such as yourbusiness.com. You pay a registrar for it every year. The price differs per extension and provider.
  • Texts and photos: if you write them yourself, it costs you time. If you have them made, it costs money. Good photos of yourself and your work sell better than stock photos.
  • Extra work after delivery: a new page, an adjusted form or an extra feature. With me, extra work costs € 95 per hour, in blocks of 15 minutes. If you want several small changes made, the 10-hour credit bundle for € 875 is cheaper (€ 87.50 per hour).
  • Email: business email addresses on your own domain are not always part of the package.
  • VAT: check whether a price includes VAT or not. My prices exclude VAT.

When is building it yourself with Wix or Squarespace the smarter choice?

To be honest, an agency is not always the best choice. Building it yourself fits when:

  • you are just starting and do not know yet whether the business will last;
  • your site is mainly a digital business card and customers find you through word of mouth;
  • you enjoy working on it yourself;
  • there simply is no budget for a build.

The downside is often speed and findability. Google calls a main-content load time under 2.5 seconds good (source: Google Search Central on Core Web Vitals). Whether a site builder reaches that on mobile, you are best off measuring yourself. If search traffic matters most to you, a site built for speed pays off. You can read more about that trade-off on the Wix alternative page.

An example of what speed can do: on a Magento webshop with over 3,400 products, the mobile load time (LCP) measured 14 to 16 seconds in the lab. For real visitors, Google now measures 2.14 seconds. That is a webshop, but the principle applies to any site.

How do you choose, and what do you ask in a quote?

Do not only compare the price, but what is included. Ask every provider these questions:

  1. Is this a fixed price, and what falls outside it?
  2. What does it cost per month afterwards, and what does that include?
  3. Who owns the website and the domain name if you stop working with me?
  4. What does extra work cost per hour?
  5. Who fixes it when the site goes down at midnight?

Want a fuller overview? My rates are listed on the pricing page, and the template website page shows what you get for them. Torn between a template and a custom build? Get in touch, and I will look at it with you and tell you honestly if a cheaper option suits you better.
