My specialty is Magento and Next.js. For Shopify I do audits and speed analysis, but deep Shopify development is not in my scope. WooCommerce is not in my stack.
LCP below 2.5 seconds on real visitors (CrUX data), INP below 200ms, CLS below 0.1. PSI lab on mobile simulates 4x CPU throttling, that is a worst case. What counts is CrUX. At CarCare24 the CrUX LCP is 2.14s after the performance waves, while lab shows 6.8s on the same day.
Both. For shops with a large product catalog and a lot of custom work I choose headless: Magento as backend, Next.js as frontend via GraphQL. For smaller shops or when budget is the deciding factor, an optimized Magento theme is the most pragmatic choice.
I start with a PSI measurement of all key pages. Then I find the LCP root cause per page: which element loads slowest and why? That produces a report with findings sorted by impact. After that you choose what to tackle: report only or implementation as well.
I first take inventory of which extensions are active and which ones load JavaScript on the frontend. Extensions that slow down LCP can be loaded asynchronously or deferred. For upgrades I check per extension whether a compatible version is available or if there is an alternative.
Remote. I work from Borne, communicate via email and video call. Magento performance work requires direct server access, which runs via SSH or a shared staging environment.
Not for an audit. For the Perf Pack or a headless migration, a staging environment that mirrors production data is strongly recommended. Without staging you test changes on production, which increases the risk of downtime.
